Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at the Village Hall at 16 River Street. Meetings commence at 6:30 P.M. unless otherwise specified.
Garbage pick-up is every Tuesday and Friday. Cans and/or bags should be at the curbside by 4:00 A.M.
Recycling pick-up is every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month. Recyclables should be at the curbside by 4:00 A.M.
Bulk pick-up is held annually. Contact the clerk's office for dates.
Large item tickets can be obtained at the clerk's office. For special pick-ups as well as the disposal of hazardous materials, residents or property owners should contact either our vendor, Weaver Sanitation or the Montgomery County Department of Solid Waste for further information.

A price list for building permits is located on the Building Codes page of our website under the Government section, which can be reached from the top portion of our website. If the work you require does not appear on this list, please reach out to the Code Officer by phone at 315-717-6415 or email at vfpcodes@gmail.com. Applications can be filled out electronically on our website under the Building Codes page. Proof of a contractor's insurance or a waiver (such as in the case of Amish contractors) will be required before a permit can be issued.
Dogs need to be registered within the Town of Minden. You can do so through the Dog Control Officer via the Town of Minden's office. Please reach out to the Town of Minden Clerk by phone at 518-993-3443 or by email at tnclkmin22@gmail.com.
Vital records are maintained by the Town/City Registrar as well as the NYS Department of Health's Vital Records Office. All such records not originating in NYC must be obtained through either the Town/City clerk's office where the birth/marriage/death occurred or through the NYS Department of Health. Village Elections are held in March; notices will be posted in advance when an election is due to be held. The Village Hall located at 16 River Street is the location of voting for Village elections while the Fort Plain Senior Center is the location for all other voting. Physical forms are also available at the village hall upon request. Election information will be posted on the public calendar listed on this website's homepage. If you need to file an application for an absentee ballot, you can find the forms under our clerk/collector page.
Montgomery County Board of Elections
The Village of Fort Plain bills for water/sewer on a quarterly basis. Bills are mailed out in early January, April, July and October and must be paid within 30 days to avoid interest/penalties. Please see your current bill or contact the clerk's office for more information on due dates and interest.
Tax bills must be paid or postmarked the last day of June of the year they are due in order to be paid without penalty. Interest applies until the last date possible to pay the village collector directly. This date will be noted at the bottom of the tax bill. After that date, the unpaid bills are reported to the county to be added on to the following year's bill. To pay a bill after the deadline, contact the Montgomery County Treasurer's office.
